The day before

It was an adventurous day here in Savannah.  Woke up with the sunrise over the river.  It was beautiful.  The hubby and I strolled down the cobblestone to a small breakfast place called B. Mathews.  I love the architecture in Savannah.

We need more places like this in Orlando!

After breakfast we hit the road again on foot to see the sights around town.  Very close to my hotel is my beginnning point for my ride tomorrow, the corner of Bay Street and Bull Street.

As we were walking we decided we'd stop at Lady and Sons, Paula Deen's local restaurant, to try to get priority seating for either lunch or dinner.  Since they don't take reservations and they're so popular, they open a podium outside the restaurant at 9:30 for people to line up.  This is what we found when we showed up at 9:30.

I couldn't even get everyone in my picture!  The line went all the way around the block.  And although I'm sure the food is wonderful, we weren't willing to get in that line.

We did one of the trolley tours where we paid for an all-day ticket and could get on and off the trolley at different points throughout the city.  During our tour we spotted no less than seven weddings, dogs dressed up for Wag-o-ween, and something I'd never seen before.

Pony poop pouches!  What a great idea!  There are so many carriages around town.  Imagine if the horses were left au natural.  So many tourists stepping in dung heaps!

I love the historic sections of Savannah.  There are numerous squares, about five of which I'll be riding around in the morning following along with the trolleys and other cyclists.  I spotted this pretty cool sign.

How did they used to mount those bikes?

We stopped at the Cotton Exchange restaurant for lunch.

Then we continued our tour of the town, but had to keep in mind that it's Saturday, which in our household only means one thing...college football!  So we hung out for a while to grab a drink and watch some football.  Eventually we ended up at Huey's for a semi carb-loaded dinner and then headed back to the hotel so we could watch Steve's beloved Gators (which just seconds ago threw a pick that was returned 100 yards for a touchdown...oops!).  It's now halftime, so I'm going to sign off to get organized, go over my maps, and get what I hope is a restful night's sleep.

Pretty soon I'll be beyond the point of no return!  I'll check in tomorrow night from Statesboro.  Y'all take care now, ya hear?
